Fans of Steve Martin's The Jerk movie will 'get' the reference in the post title today.  If you're not a fan, let me say I'm not recommending the movie (as this is not a movie review site).  I'm just saying I remember when he got so excited about the the phone book being published and delivered.  And now, I get so disappointed when I see that chunk of wasted paper laying in my driveway or shoved in my mailbox.   

But I digress...

Library Conference

We need presenters and attendees for our Summer Library Conference.  


Our keynote speaker will be Liz Philippi, School Program Coordinator for Texas State Library & Archives.  The topic will be "The new 2018 Texas State Library Standards".  Confirmed featured speakers are Tammy VanBuren, Training Consultant K-12 Specialist for Gale, Cengage Learning, Kelli Johns, Professional Development Specialist for Britannica Digital Learning and Karen Beard, Outreach Coordinator for Accessible Books for Texas (Bookshare).

Revised Texas State Library Standards

The long-awaited Texas State School Library Program Standards have been revised and adopted.  They will go into effect on March 9, 2018 when they are added to the Texas Administrative Code.  The standards have not been updated since 2005. Visit the State Library and Archives Commission’s news release page for the highlights and download the document from this TSLAC page.

Special appreciation goes to Sonja Schulz, Nacogdoches High School Librarian for serving on the statewide committee to bring these standards up to date.
